Excellent Behaviour of Bands in Rasharkin

Statement - Saturday 21 August 1999

(Issued to Ballymoney Times and Coleraine Chronicle)

The Ulster Bands Association would like to commend all the bands on their excellent behaviour at Ballymaconnelly Sons of Conquerors annual parade in Rasharkin last Friday evening.

Despite several reported incidents of childish goading from republicans, the bands maintained their discipline and were not provoked.

We believe that the peaceful way the parade passed demonstrates once more, that the Loyalist marching bands merely seek to express their culture and heritage and are not intent on causing trouble.

Given the recent attempts by some to heighten tensions in the village, it was good to see many members of the Catholic community out watching thus furthermore proving that the parade was inoffensive and non-threatening.
